Show & Tell: More winged friends

Welcome back, welcome back

Show & Tell Thursday's

What's been happening in your world?  Hopefully lots of good things : ).

I have so been enjoying testing these Paper Pieced Bird patterns for uber-talented Juliet.

I didn't have a plan for any of them, and they were put together from fabric that I had on hand, trying as best I could to keep the colours fairly realistic.

After the four tests here (Kakariki, Tui, Wax eye and Tomtit) I started thinking about what to do with them.  Logic dictated a quilt!  More fabric was purchased (if you're familiar with my tastes and style, you can probably guess browns, blacks and grey's are not exactly prolific among my fabric stash...) 5 more blocks completed, the top has been put together and it is currently with a quilter!

Hopefully these guys will have a happy ending!
Have you started something and wondered where to from here after a point?  What was the end result?  Do share!

Looking forward to seeing what you've all been making this week!
Happy Thursday!

Dishcloth Swap - Done like the dishes!

Swaps are great fun and I always thoroughly enjoy them - stalking the recipients blogs, finding out about them, working at the parcel, hoping they love it at least half as much as I did putting it together...

I've really limited the number of swaps I've participated in this year - I think I've done one? two? Not sure but not many!  One was Leonie's International Dishcloth Swap, a secret swap in which you didn't know who was sending a package to you!

My partner was Tracy from Mad About Bags who lives in the UK - her favorite colour is green, but her kitchen is red (from what I could tell from the blog-stalking!)  I knew I wanted to give these awesome dotty cloths a go and love this gorgeous design from Louana, so choosing colours and designs was easy : )

The package also included a few other goodies, things that I thought she might like based on what I'd read on her blog.  Buttons, woollen yarn, a pretty pouch, lollipops, a couple of fat quarters, some buttons, yummy soap and a wee necklace that I made with some fabric, mod-podge and bits of an old deconstructed necklace.  Fun!

I also received my dishcloths from Treena-Marie in the last week or two.  Thanks Treena!

I have some cotton left so will be making a few more dishcloths... perhaps a colourful rainbow dot one?  Am super keen to have another go at the dots!

Are you a fan of cotton dishcloths?  Seen any great designs?

Hope you're all having a good start to the shorter week!

Gaming on

It's probably been said on here before but...we love games : )

We played quite a few on some of the quieter times or more miserable days.

Some of the girls favourites are Pengoloo and Hiss.  Even little L (who's 2) grasps the concepts and rules of these and enthusiastically plays along.

And for fun we tried out Blokus too one time.  Nevermind the rules, we just played it puzzle-styles :)

I was endlessly entertained by the girls helping each other in each game, rather than competing.  Warm fuzzies : )

Happy Monday!

Show & Tell: Stitching Stitching

Happy Thursday!
Show & Tell Thursday's

How're you all doing?  Ticking along happily or starting to panic just a little about December looming?  Hopefully it's a happy and controlled panic!

A sweet friend gave me a copy of Cath Kidston's Stitch! a few months ago, lucky me aye?

The project included was this wee stitched pouch.  Nothing too onerous and a relatively quick wee project, it was completed, lined, filled with special soaps and goodies and became a birthday gift for hubby's Oma.

I'm looking forward to trying out some of the other awesome projects in this book in time!

Have you made anything from Stitch or any other awesome project books?  Would love to hear about/see it!

Looking forward to having you guys link up this week : )
Have a happy day!

Stamping time

We've been meaning to do this for ages and due to holidays and sickness colliding over the last month we finally got to it!

Potato Stamping!

We used cookie cutters to help make shapes and next time we will be making stamped wrapping paper : )

Such simple easy fun and kept us entertained for hours!
Have a great week.

Show & Tell: Pretty Little Thing

Goooood Morning!

Show & Tell Thursday's

How were your school holidays?  Did everyone survive?  Things here have been a bit up and down and thanks to four of us getting Chickenpox, we've had another week of 'holidays' : )  But it hasn't been too bad really and we've been doing a bit of crafting to make the days brighter.

Months ago I made this wee pincushion as part of a gift collection for a friend's birthday.  I've been admiring these for ages on other blogs and enjoyed having a go at it!  All in her fav colours, small, simple and satisfying :)

You can find the pattern here, if you'd like to have a go!

Cant wait to see what you'll be sharing with us this week.  Thanks for stopping in all you gorgeous gorgeous people :)  Link away and lets be inspired!

Show & Tell: A quilt for a cause

And just like that it's Thursday again!

Show & Tell Thursday's

Last year I was lucky enough to meet Deb and I'm sure you've all heard of her.  No doubt you've also recently read about the Blessing Deb project.  A week or two ago the call was put out to donate items for an auction.

After a lot of um-ing and ah-ing I decided to make up a quilt to contribute.

I dreamt up the design (literally - I woke up with the pictures and numbers in my head at 4am one morning!) and got on with making it over the weekend.

It wasn't without it's challenges - needle failures, backing failures, etc -   but... despite the hiccups, the top came together, my walking foot got a good workout with the straight-line quilting,  binding sewn on, and now it's done!

The details:
Top: Various fabrics from my stash
Middle:  A lovely warm woolen blanket.
Backing:  Pretty soft sheet
Size: 56" x 56" (142 cm x 142cm)

Next week it will be auctioned.  Check out the details on the Facebook page, and if you like it, please bid on it!  I hope it goes to a home that will love it as much as we do : )

What have you been up to? Making lots? Having school holiday fun?
Looking forward to seeing your makings and creatings!
Have a happy day

Show & Tell: Kokeshi Love

こんにちは素敵な人
A pinch and a punch for the third of the month :)

Show & Tell Thursday's

I dont own a Kokeshi doll (not for a lack of trying), but I've seen many out there in blogland.  And then super talented Cait designed 3 crochet versions of it...  How to resist the tempatation?!  Well... you dont!

The day Cait released her second set of patterns I was about to hop over to her shop and purchase the existing pattern to make one for a friend's birthday.  Instead the new double trouble pattern was purchased and I set to work.  Timing was perfect!

This one comprises the smaller doll body, topped with the bow.  I then realised I didn't want to stitch green leaves onto a green body (so much for planning!) and went with the wee yellow and white flowers similar to the first doll.  Of course the flower punch could not be found so they were cut out freestyles :)

It was one of the most fun things I've worked on I think.  It may be because the pattern was so easy, the end result was exactly what you imagine and it didn't have any frustration or angst - for me which is rare!.  And to say we were all completely in love with the little doll would be an understatement!  I Will be making more!

You should definitely check out Cait's shop.  Is she clever or what?!

The winner of last month's gorgeous Make Cafe giveaway is...Liz!  Congrats Liz, I'll be in touch to make arrangements!

What fun projects have you been working on lately?
Looking forward to your link-ups and seeing what you've been up to!
木曜日ハッピー!
