Show & Tell: Little Critters

Oh hai!

Show & Tell Thursday's

Lovely of you to stop in - please say hi and share with us your thoughts and creative talents!

You may recall this post from ages ago... Based on how much I loved working on it and how much it was loved the little bunny above was produced and her half-sister owl below...

Both went to a lovely home a few months ago, to two gorgeous little poppets.  And I've been itching to make more since but alas... not yet!

Are you a maker of little furry or feathered friends at all?  What's your favourite animal to make/work on?

Our sponsor for September is the  Make Cafe and they are giving one lucky linkee a copy of this gorgeous book:

This is the last week to link up to be in the draw to win this trove of great ideas!  So go wild! : )

Same, Same, Same

I know it seems all I have to show for my op-shopping ventures are sheets and blankets... but I assure you I do actually look for other things too! And occasionally stumble upon unexpected treasures...

However this week I have more of the same old to show you - gorgeous retro sheets!

3x single sheets and in great condition.  I wasn't sure about the colours initially but have bonded with them in the meantime and now I love the greeny-bluey hues.  And I've thought of the perfect use for one of them too - but that might be a while coming :)

What treasures have you found lately?
Have a great Tuesday :)

Show & Tell: Pretty Little Purse

Hi ho hi ho, here we go!

Show & Tell Thursday's

One of Heidi's friends had a wee birthday not so long ago and I wanted to make a little something to go along with the birthday goodies.  And also H was pretty keen "what are you going to make for her Mummy? Can you make something for her birthday Mummy? ..."

I'd seen some cute little purses around the interwebs and have a few pinned too.  I adored one particular one but there was no pattern available... so I made it up :)

The inside is lined with some pretty ballerina fabric, and a cute wee wooden button on the outside.  Both were from the Make Cafe.

The girls loved it, so that was approval enough.  And Heidi was so happy that Mummy made something : )

Do you make things up as you go and hope for the best if there is no pattern or guide to be found?

Ze Stripey Horse {and a giveaway!}

While randomly wandering around the sally store recently, I spotted a dash of black and white stripes... hidden behind old framed prints..

I moved them aside to discover this awesome wee matted, and quality produced print!  Still in original plastic packaging and not a single ding on it!

As you may or may not know by now... we have a very big Zebra lover in this house... so I left the shop with my treasure.

Later that evening I looked up the artist, Tony Cribb.   Within moments I was fan of his work - quirky, clever and amusing.   Maybe you've come across his work before?  Anyone familiar with Tin Man? Tony is a Christchurch local and a very friendly chap.  Hang on a minute you say...how do I know he's "nice"?

Well, that's because he is giving one of you guys a Framed 17x17cm Ze Stripey Horse Print (worth $50)!!

Show & Tell: Friendly Fantail

Welcome to Show & Tell for another week :)

Show & Tell Thursday's

A few weeks ago I mentioned I've been testing some paper piecing patterns for the incredibly talented Juliet.

As luck would have it the timing was perfect! At at the time I was wondering what to do as a gift for my SIL whose favourite NZ bird is a fantail...

And I knew just the fabric for the bird and for a cushion cover. Taking care with the colours, fabric choices and running pretty low on some of the quantities... a fantail cushion cover came together. Some handquilting to compliment and add texture, and off it went to its new home. Yay :)

What's your favourite bird? Have you incorporated it in your creations before?

More sheety goodness

The oppies haven't held much good fortune for me since the last crazy blanket blitz.  But then last week... whoop!
Aren't they awesome!?

The yellow ones are single sized and quite thin in the middle sections but plenty of bright goodness to be utilised around it!

And these blue ones... doubles and in good condition... they make me happy :)

Show & Tell - When Procrastination Takes Over

Hi all you lovely people,

Show & Tell Thursday's

So, hands up if you are good at procrastinating on those must-do/in-the-middle-of/cant-be-bothered-with-it-anymore/cant-make-a-decision-on projects...  I suspect most of us have experienced the joys of moving onto something new and shiny instead of sticking to one project!

Well, a couple of weeks ago I was having such a moment on just about every front...couldn't decide, didn't feel like that, all too hard on another...  So what did I do?

I made a quilt instead!

That's perfectly normal behaviour isn't it?

I had a roll of retro 30's fabric that I bought on a trip to Hamilton with a friend a couple of months ago, that had been winking and smiling at me ever since...  so in the midst of all the piles of stuff to do and projects to complete I ripped that roll open and embarked on a scrappy-trip-along quilt!

The cute retro zoo block was perfect for the back, so it became the centre and some vintage sheet fat quarters completed the backing.  Every last bit of that 30's fabric roll was used.  In the font, in the back and in the scrappy binding.

One of my op-shoppped blankets for batting, and my walking foot got a good workout with all the straight-line quilting.  I adore these old-school prints - so cute and fun and charming :)

It is the first thing and quilt! I've made for us and for no particular reason!  (Other than procrastination of course!)  It's been used daily since - our family quilt (ie: for all of us to share!) and lives in the living room for snuggling under and playing with.

The winner of last month's Big Little giveaway is...Sammy!  Congrats! I'll be in touch soon to make arrangements :)
